Bring God Glory

During the last month or so, God has been showing me a lot about how He is deserving of glory. For years of my life I questioned why it was that the Bible demands that we glorify God. I thought such a request sounded selfish. For example, if I demanded everyone around me to glorify me...well, let's not even try to imagine it...what an ugly picture that would make! But God has shown me there is a huge difference between the two of us. The reason He is worthy of glory is because He is who He says He is.

God is God. He created you and me. He formed the mountains and made the seas. He is God. He sacrificed Himself. Jesus came into the throne room of God, to the mercy seat, bringing His own life blood in order to set me free (Heb 10). This is the God I serve. Not only this, but when Jesus died, he received the punishment we were to receive, and yet, because He is holy and He is God, death could not hold Him. He rose from the dead, proving that He has the victory. He holds the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven, and He wants that NONE should perish (2 Pet 3:9). God wants everyone to know Him, to believe that He is who He says He is, to understand the ramifications of what He did. This is the God I serve. This is the God who asks for my worship. This is the God who deserves nothing LESS than to be glorified.

Everything that I am, everything that I do, should bring glory to God. Giving glory to God should not be dependent on His giving me what I ask for. It should not be dependent on how I feel about Him that day. Giving God glory should not depend on the weather or how recently I have been to church or when my last "encounter" with Him was. He is GOD. I change. I see ups and downs. I come to God one minute and then forget Him the next. But God doesn't change. He is ALWAYS deserving of glory.

There's no way words can do justice to who God is or just why He is deserving of glory, but take a look at this short video...maybe it will help give you a taste:

This is God. This is why He is deserving of glory.

Here is a poem that I wrote to sum up my thoughts on this topic:

When I wake up and the sun shines bright,
Bring God glory.
When I can't sleep in the dead of night,
Bring God glory.
When the future looks all picture perfect,
Bring God glory.
When you just can't figure how He'll work it,
Bring God glory.
When memories, sweet, come back to you,
Bring God glory.
When all you see looks dark and blue,
Bring God glory.
Through all of times, both good and bad,
Bring God glory.
For God's still God through happy and sad,
So bring Him glory.
