Vitals Check

When a baby is crying how do you get it to stop? Typically, you try to find out WHY they are crying. It can be because they are hungry, thirsty, have a dirty diaper, are sick in their stomach, there can be any number of things. But I've met many moms who learned how to find out what was wrong so they could care for their child. Further along my journey dealing with my emotions, I discovered that there were a few basic things I should check if I found myself having an off day, similar to a mom figuring out what's wrong with her baby. Many times I could get focused on my mood and go down a crazy path when all I needed to do was provide what my body needed. While this was not always true, sometimes circumstances were difficult and beyond my control, this checklist was a good place to start.

Physical stuff:
  1. Have I eaten well? (This includes fruits, veggies, protein, whole grain, low in refined sugar, appropriate portions, etc.).
  2. Have I drunk enough water and avoided things like caffeine?
  3. Have I gotten enough sleep, but not too much?
  4. Have I exercised well the passed few days?
  5. Have I spent time with God and with His people?
  6. Have I been thankful for the things I have? or focused on what I don't have?
  7. Do I have a good perspective? Am I remembering to leave the passed in the passed, live in the present, and not worry or fear for tomorrow?
Sometimes all that needs to happen is a readjustment, or a drink of water.
